Before you book

Three things that shape a ski charter.

01

Skis, boards and boot bags under the coach

A full-size motorcoach has luggage bays under the floor, so skis, boards and boot bags travel below while the aisle stays clear. Ask everyone to bag their skis and tag each bag with a name and phone number. Tell us how many skiers and riders are coming when you request the quote, since a full group with gear can fill the bays.

02

Leave early, catch the first chair

Lifts open in the morning, and a two- to three-hour drive means a pre-dawn pickup for a group that wants a full day. Hunter, Windham and Belleayre are close to three hours from Midtown before traffic. Choose a well-lit pickup point with room for a coach to pull in, and share the departure time with the group a week ahead.

  • ✓Pickup spot with space for a coach
  • ✓Departure time shared early
  • ✓Breakfast packed or a planned stop

03

The driver's day has federal limits

Under federal rules, a bus driver may drive up to 10 hours after 8 consecutive hours off duty, and may not drive after 15 hours on duty. A ski day with a three-hour drive each way can approach that ceiling. When it does, a second driver may be required or an overnight stay, and we show that in your quote.

  • ✓10 hours of driving at most
  • ✓No driving after 15 hours on duty
  • ✓Long days flagged in the quote

Resorts by departure city

Where groups ski from each city

Drive times are typical no-traffic estimates and run longer on winter weekends. Group terms come from each resort's groups page; book lift tickets and lessons with the resort directly.

Drive times are typical no-traffic estimates (Rome2Rio) from Midtown Manhattan, Philadelphia, Boston, Washington DC, Baltimore and the Chicago Loop. Opening dates and seasons are projected and set by each resort. Planning the day

Sort these out before the bus is booked.

Lift tickets and rentals

Book group lift tickets, rentals and lessons with the resort. Some group rates need notice, like Blue Mountain's one week, so settle tickets before you fix the bus times.

Midweek or weekend

Belleayre's bus-group rates apply on midweek, non-holiday days, and Wilmot's group program runs on weekdays. Weekend trips also meet heavier traffic on the way up.

Name a trip lead

Pick one person to hold the passenger list, count heads before each departure and act as the driver's contact. Give us their number when you book.

The ride home

Set the return time before you leave and share it with everyone. Tired skiers load slowly, so ask the group to be at the bus 15 minutes early.

FAQ

Ski trip bus questions

Didn't find your answer? Call (929) 831-5150 — a coordinator will help.

Will all our skis and snowboards fit under the bus?▼

On a full-size motorcoach, in most cases yes, as long as skis are bagged and boots are packed in boot bags. Space runs out faster with snowboards and large duffels, so tell us how many skiers and riders are coming and whether anyone brings an overnight bag. Minibuses have little or no under-floor storage, which is why a motorcoach is the usual choice for gear-heavy trips.

How early will we have to leave for Hunter or Belleayre?▼

Both are roughly two and a half to three hours from Midtown Manhattan before traffic, so a group that wants a full day on the snow needs an early-morning pickup. Closer resorts such as Mountain Creek, about 1h20 out, allow a later start. We set the pickup time with you when we quote, based on your lift-ticket and lesson times.

Does the bus wait at the resort all day?▼

On a day charter the coach normally stays at the resort and is ready at the agreed return time. The driver's on-duty time is capped by federal rules, so a very long day can call for a second driver. The 5-hour minimum rarely matters on a ski trip, because the round trip plus time on the mountain usually runs well past it.

Do resorts give group rates if we arrive by bus?▼

Several do, and the minimum size varies. Belleayre offers group rates for 20 or more arriving by bus on midweek, non-holiday days. Mountain Creek and Wachusett start group bookings at 15, while Hunter, Blue Mountain and Camelback day groups start at 20. Book those directly with the resort; we arrange the transportation.

What happens if a snowstorm hits on the day of the trip?▼

The dispatcher and driver decide whether the roads are safe to drive, and that call comes first. We keep you informed through our 24/7 dispatch line and help you choose between waiting, rerouting or postponing. How a weather change affects your booking depends on your terms. Cancellation terms are confirmed in your quote.
