How a lights tour works

An evening on the bus, planned stop by stop.

01

Start after dark

Most displays switch on at dusk, and December evenings get dark early. Plan the pickup so the group reaches its first stop as the lights come on. Weeknights are often calmer than Fridays and Saturdays, and mid-December is the busiest stretch at neighborhood displays such as Dyker Heights.

  • ✓Pickup timed to sunset and the first stop
  • ✓Weeknights for shorter lines
  • ✓Hot-drink stop between displays
Start after dark
02

Drive-by loops and walking stops

Some displays look best from the street, while others mean leaving the bus for an hour. A good evening mixes both: a slow pass along a lit avenue, then a walk-through at a zoo or garden. Narrow residential streets may not suit a full-size coach, so the driver drops the group at the edge and meets them at an agreed corner.

  • ✓Mark which stops are walk-through
  • ✓Agree a meeting corner at each stop
  • ✓Ask venues how long a visit takes

Ticket times set the schedule

Zoos and gardens sell timed entry, and a late bus can cost the group its slot. Send your entry windows with the quote request and we plan the route backwards from them, with a buffer for holiday traffic. The return time is agreed before the bus leaves, so families and staff know when they will be home.

  • ✓Entry windows on the quote request
  • ✓Traffic buffer on every leg
  • ✓Return time set before departure

FAQ

Christmas lights tour questions

Didn't find your answer? Call (929) 831-5150 — a coordinator will help.

Can the bus drive slowly past the houses in Dyker Heights?▼

It depends on the crowds and traffic that night. Dyker Heights is busiest in mid-December, and a full-size coach may not be able to crawl through the blocks or stop where the group wants. A practical plan is a drop-off at the edge of the neighborhood, an hour on foot, and a pickup at the same corner. A minibus gives the driver more room to work with.

Do we buy the zoo and garden tickets, or do you?▼

You buy event tickets directly from the venue, and we arrange the bus and driver. Send us your entry window when you request a quote, and we plan pickup and drive time to meet it. Some venues offer group pricing, such as ZooLights at Stone Zoo for 20 or more, so ask the venue before buying individual tickets.

What happens if traffic makes us late for a timed entry?▼

We build a traffic buffer into the route, and December evenings in Midtown, Center City or the Loop usually need a generous one. If the group is still running late, call the venue, since each one sets its own late-arrival policy. Our dispatch line is answered 24/7 if you need help changing the plan once you are on the road.

How many displays can we fit into one evening?▼

Two or three is realistic for most routes. One ticketed walk-through plus one or two free displays, such as a tree or a lit avenue, fills an evening once drive time is counted. Charters have a 5-hour minimum, so a longer list can work when stops sit close together, like Rockefeller Center and the Saks light show.

Are the holiday dates on this page confirmed for this year?▼

No. The dates shown come from the 2025 season, and each venue publishes its own 2026 schedule. Check the venue's website before you book the bus. Holiday in the Park at Six Flags Great Adventure, for example, has announced a return with dates still to be announced, so we list it without dates.
