South Jersey runs from the Delaware River towns facing Philadelphia down to the beaches of Cape May County, and most group days lean toward one end or the other. On the Camden Waterfront, Freedom Mortgage Pavilion holds 25,488 for summer concerts, while Adventure Aquarium and the Battleship New Jersey sit close together, an easy pairing for a school or scout outing. The aquarium gives group rates from 20 people and books bus groups into half-hour arrival slots, so the coach has to reach the curb on schedule. The battleship, an Iowa-class ship, hosts overnight encampments for youth groups, which means a drop-off one evening and a pickup the next morning. Inland, Rowan University in Glassboro welcomes campus visitors at 131 Rowan Blvd. Plenty of trips also cross into Philadelphia for games, shows or flights. The four DRPA bridges, Ben Franklin, Walt Whitman, Commodore Barry and Betsy Ross, collect tolls only westbound, from New Jersey into Pennsylvania, so the toll is paid going over and the ride home crosses free.
Toward the coast, the Atlantic City Expressway is the direct line from the Camden and Gloucester County suburbs to the casinos and the Boardwalk, and the Garden State Parkway carries shore traffic south to Ocean City, Wildwood and Cape May. Both are toll roads, and summer weekends bring heavy shore traffic, so we start from the time you need to arrive and set the departure from there (verify drive times near the date). In Atlantic City, Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall opened in 1929, seats up to 14,770 and houses the world's largest pipe organ. The Atlantic City Convention Center has five exhibit halls and connects to the city's rail terminal, so conference groups often combine train arrivals with a hotel shuttle. Families heading north choose Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson Township, home to a theme park and a 350-acre Wild Safari. In winter, Storybook Land in Egg Harbor Township lights up more than a million bulbs for Christmas Fantasy with Lights (verify 2026 dates). Trips into Delaware use the Delaware Memorial Bridge, which also tolls westbound only. Flights go through Philadelphia (PHL) or Atlantic City International (ACY).
