Wilmington sits where I-95 crosses the Christina River, and most group days here start on that corridor. A conference crowd at the Chase Center on the Riverfront, a Blue Rocks game at Daniel S. Frawley Stadium and a touring Broadway show at The Playhouse on Rodney Square can all land on the same evening, so curb time and departure times need care. The Chase Center lists more than 70,000 square feet of event space, including a 20,000-square-foot exhibit hall, which makes hotel shuttles a frequent request. Just north of downtown, the Brandywine Valley holds three du Pont-era estates that take groups: Hagley Museum and Library, Winterthur and Nemours Estate. Hagley runs group tours for 15 to 49 people and has motor coach parking. Winterthur offers a group rate from 15 guests and a tram tour of its 60-acre garden. Nemours pairs a 105-room mansion with the largest French formal garden in North America.
Road choices change both the cost and the clock. The stretch of I-95 known as the Delaware Turnpike is tolled, and the I-495 bypass gives a coach a way around the downtown section when traffic stacks up. Trips to New Jersey cross the Delaware Memorial Bridge on I-295/US-40, which collects tolls only westbound, so a round trip to Atlantic City pays once, on the way home. Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, is about 12 miles away and asks bus groups of 15 or more to book at least three weeks ahead. Its holiday show, A Longwood Christmas, ran from November 21, 2025 to January 11, 2026 with timed tickets and no guided group tours, so build the 2026 season around ticket times. Delaware Stadium in Newark seats 18,500 for University of Delaware football. Flights usually mean PHL, with BWI to the south and limited scheduled service at ILG.
